Ethos (エトス, Etosu^?, "Etos") is a supporting character in Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X. She is the adoptive mother of Dio and Mel, taking the place of the Parent from the original game. Due to her role as the two central protagonists' parental figure, Ethos naturally has an overprotective personality.

History

Ethos believed she was a fairy but could remember none of her past. Her story started with her wandering the world alone in search of other fairies. After a long period of time traveling, she began to lose her power until one day she passed out. A mysterious woman named Norn appeared before Ethos and nursed her to health. Norn then asked Ethos to care for two babies, Dio and Mel. Ethos was reluctant to take on the responsibility but proved to care a great deal for her adoptive children.

Late in the story, Ethos learns she is not a fairy. Origin reveals she is the spirit representing the element of sound, originally named Glamrock (グラムロック, Guramurokku^?). The other spirits had taken her memory as a consequence of misdeeds from her past. In a desperate bid to disperse the Prism Ring, Ethos calls upon her powers to silence the chant empowering it and regains her memories as a result. To atone for her sins, and because she had come to love motherhood, she would adopt several more children, effectively turning her house into an orphanage.

Appearance and Personality

Ethos takes the appearance of a small fairy with yellow wings. She has algae green hair that swirls upward, and eyes of the same color. She wears a unique full-body outfit that is black on the left and white on the right.

• Ethos's name derives from Ethos, a Greek word meaning "character" that is used to describe the guiding beliefs or ideals that characterize a community, nation, or ideology.
• On the other hand, her original name, Glamrock, is derived from Glam rock, a style of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s that was primarily defined by flamboyant fashion.
